I feel brave. I’m up to a safari in the land of the famous, gigantic, traditional Fiorentina steak.
And why not, some world class sightseeing as a dessert.
I buy train tickets from Rome to Florence on www.trenitalia.com.
In just one hour and a half I’m standing in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella on a Sunny Summer day.
It’s still early, I need to grow my hunger to face the 1kg piece of finest Tuscany meat I’m dreaming of. So I head towards the Duomo and the unique Battistero. The tiny vicoli of the ancient city are vibrant, full of traditional bars, restaurants and gelaterias.
All of a sudden the stunning view of Santa Maria del Fiore appears behind the corner: it’s massive. The white marbles of the front shine under the sun; a game of sculptures, precious green stones and colored glasses invite my imagination into past centuries and parallel worlds.
The immense dome dominates the square and seems to climb the sky.
Now that my intellectual side is happy it’s time to turn to the wilder one… I start hunting the perfect place for my traditional Fiorentina Steak!
Some restaurants are too touristy, others too classy… I keep searching among the ancient buildings… my hunger turns me into a lion at midday in the savana.
And all of a sudden here it is: the Yellow Bar Florence! The look is killer, the smell irresistible. I get in with no doubts and the best hopes.
My eye is well trained and the waitress gets my intentions in a sec. She shows me, finally, my prey: a 1kg, red and juicy Fiorentina steak! Then she heads to the grill:
I’m sorry I can’t offer you a bite, but have a look at the pictures and I’m sure you will start mouth-watering!
